Bookbag giveaway gives students a head start on new school year

Trimz Barber Shop in Freeport held its 13th annual back-to-school barbecue and giveaway Saturday.

Trimz Barber Shop in Freeport held its 13th annual back-to-school barbecue and giveaway Saturday.
Parents and students in attendance received a bookbag filled with donated school supplies and a pair of sneakers, courtesy of “Heeling Soles.”

Students also received free haircuts.

Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams partners with Trimz and other local organizations to make the event happen.
The Nassau and Suffolk County police departments got into the mix too, handing out bookbags in Westbury and Huntington.
