The state Board of Regents has announced that it plans to shorten the time students have to finish exams.

The plan calls for trimming 20 minutes off the total math time and 10 minutes off some of the ELA exams.

However, the tests' lengths are not being shortened.

State education officials say the change does make sense because a majority of students who took the tests in the spring finished in less time than was given.
