Long Islanders came out to donate blood for a pair of Shoreham siblings Wednesday.
Ruby and Buddy Cotter both have rare heart conditions.
Wednesday marked the two-year anniversary of the day Ruby Cotter received her heart transplant.
She relied heavily on blood transfusion while waiting for her transplant.
Buddy, whose real name is Everett, has the same condition and is currently in the hospital.
The New York Blood Center hosted the blood drive in their honor.
“We are here to support the Cotter family and also to show how important it is and how people cannot live without blood,” says Kristen Reutter of the New York Blood Center.
People in the community say they hope their donations go a long way to support the Cotter family and anyone else who needs blood donations.
The drive was held at Shoreham-Wading River High School.
