The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for most of Long Island, which will be in effect through Friday at 1 p.m.
The storm that's making its way to the area is expected to hit later Thursday into Friday.
News 12 meteorologists say it will likely bring 4-8 inches of snow to Long Island by Friday, with localized higher amounts possible.
Winds over 35 mph and visibility below a quarter-mile will combine with temperatures in the teens to produce blizzard conditions, making travel dangerous.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday that the snow could mean major road closures, including the LIE, and Northern and Southern State Parkways.
"If you leave it open and people get stuck on the road, that's a problem," the governor said. "If you close the road and now have hundreds of thousands of people now potentially can't get home, that's a problem. That's why the advanced warning is called for here."
