Blakeman: Nassau County detectives to assist ICE in detaining immigrants in the county illegally who commit crimes

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman announced a major change in immigration enforcement in the county this morning. Blakeman says 10 Nassau detectives will soon be able to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by detaining those living in the county illegally and commit illegal offenses. Detectives will be able to hold those living here illegally when ICE agents are not readily available. Fifty Nassau Jail cells will be used, and Blakeman says the county will be reimbursed by the U.S. government for its efforts.
