WEATHER ALERT: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of Ocean County until 9:45 p.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean counties and counties south until 11 p.m. tonight. Straight line winds up to 60 mph would be the primary threat.
Yesterday's standout weather is now taking a back seat to storms today and then possible snow showers for tomorrow. Passing storms tonight will bring downpours, thunder and lightning. A few overperformers could bring damaging winds to a few neighborhoods in western and southern areas of the state. The stronger storms will have a better chance of impacting the region through the evening hours. Lingering showers will carry us into the overnight as the weather system slows up over the northeast. Temperatures are warm tonight but are eventually fading. The air will continue to get colder through the day on Thursday. So much colder, the morning lingering showers will likely change over to snow showers. Temperatures will drop from the 60s overnight to the 40s by Thursday morning and continue dropping into the 30s by Thursday afternoon. Will the snow stick? No, I don't think so. It's more of the shock value that we went from 80 degrees on Tuesday to mid-30s and snow for Thursday.
Friday and Saturday are quiet, but you should be prepared for wind chills. On Friday morning, the air will feel like it's in the mid-20s. By Saturday morning, it is going to feel like the upper teens and low 20s.
