Nice evening on Long Island ahead of multiple rain chances later this week

BEAUTIFUL EVENING
After a great Monday of weather with sun and high temperatures in the upper 50s to middle 60s, it will be a nice and mostly clear evening. Have a light jacket with you as temperatures will be dropping into the 50s.
COOL AND DRY OVERNIGHT
Overnight lows into Tuesday morning will be in the upper 30s to middle 40s. A coat late at night or early in the morning is recommended, but it will continue to be dry under a mostly clear sky overnight.
A DENT IN THE RAIN DEFICIT
This past weekend's rain improved this month's precipitation deficit a bit, but there is still more rain that is needed. Long Island is still around two inches below average rain for the month and even a bit more than that for the year.
NEXT RAIN CHANCES
With that said, there will be a couple of opportunities for some rain this week. The first will come Wednesday night into Thursday. Rain showers will develop after around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. There can be a few brief downpours into Thursday morning. We expect around an average of half an inch of rain, with slightly higher amounts possible. The bulk of the rain will end Thursday morning.
Beyond that, there will be another chance for rain into the start of the weekend on Saturday. It is possible the bulk of this rain remains offshore to the south and east of Long Island, but just keep in mind for now that there is that scattered rain chance on Saturday again. TUESDAY: Breaks of sunshine in the morning will give way to more clouds in the afternoon and evening. Most of the day stays dry, but there is a slight chance for a few light raindrops. Highs will be around the upper 50s to the mid-60s again. The UV index will be high. Please use sunscreen to avoid getting a sunburn in around 20 minutes or less. Overnight lows will be near 44 degrees.
WEDNESDAY: Breaks of morning sun will give way to more clouds in the afternoon and evening again. Highs around 60 degrees. Scattered rain showers arrive after around 9 p.m. with periods of light to moderate rain overnight. Lows near 47 degrees.
THURSDAY: WET START -- Periods of rain in the morning. Then, drier, but mostly cloudy into the afternoon. Highs around 57 degrees. Lows near 43 degrees.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny with highs around 59 degrees. Lows near 42 degrees.
SATURDAY: RAIN CHANCE -- Mostly cloudy with scattered rain showers possible. Highs around 57 degrees. Lows near 42 degrees.
