Snow on Sunday
A quick round of mostly light to moderate snow, possibly with some mixing is likely from around 7 am to noon. This can be enough for reduced visibility and a coating up to 1 inch of new snow. This will lead to some new slippery spots.
Wintry then Wet Next Week
Monday is very cold but dry with high temperatures only in the upper 20s. Tuesday is dry to start, but a wintry mix will arrive in the afternoon. A quick coating of snow or ice is possible on Tuesday evening, which could slow down the evening commute.
You will need the umbrellas and rain boots starting on Wednesday, as steady rain is expected. Rain chances will continue the rest of the week.
HOW IS THE SNOW MELTING SO FAST?
The snow is melting fast, and the sunshine feels so much warmer than the temperature would lead you to believe. The higher angle of the sun, longer daylight, and more powdery snowpack are helping the snow melt much faster with this round than the snow we saw in January.
The snowpack will likely be gone by the end of next week.. That said, it could take until the middle of March to get the highest snow mounds to completely melt.
THINKING SPRING?
Here are a few things to look forward to if you are still stuck in the winter blues like so many Long Islanders are.
