Scattered showers and temperatures below average today; big weekend warm up ahead on Long Island

Mostly cloudy skies and a few scattered rain showers will keep things unsettled through the day today. A chance for a spotty thunderstorm between 2 and 6pm. Temperatures will still be fairly mild despite the clouds, with highs reaching the mid and upper 60s inland. Along the immediate South Shore, cooler ocean air will hold temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
For tonight, we’ll hang on to partly to mostly cloudy skies with the chance of a couple of spotty showers drifting through. Most of the night will stay quiet, but you may run into a brief shower here and there. Overnight lows will settle into the upper 40s and lower 50s.
As we head into Friday, there could still be a spotty morning shower around, especially early in the day. After that, conditions improve with developing partly sunny skies during the afternoon. Temperatures will warm nicely, climbing into the mid-60s to around 70 degrees, making for a much better finish to the workweek.
The weekend forecast is looking very nice overall. Saturday brings lots of sunshine and warm temperatures in the mid-70s — a great day to get outside and enjoy the spring weather. On Sunday, we’ll see a mix of sun and clouds with just a slight chance of a brief afternoon shower. Even with that small shower chance, it stays warm with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s.
