Quick round of rain this afternoon with more rain expected to arrive overnight
A brief round of mostly moderate rain is moving through Long Island now ahead of drier evening weather. More rain is expected after midnight into early Thursday.

NOW THROUGH EARLY EVENING
It is cloudy with periods of rain showers moving through now. While the rain can be briefly heavy, much of it will be moderate and weakening as it moves through from northwest to southeast. There is a chance much of eastern Suffolk County stays mostly dry other than some spotty light rain and drizzle. An east breeze at 10 mph will keep temperatures much cooler than average, only in the low to mid-70s today.
MORE RAIN TO START THURSDAY
The wind shifts south tonight with a warm front. Along with it comes a chance for moderate to heavy rain and a thunderstorm. Temperatures are near 70 degrees tonight into Thursday morning, with a muggy feel to the day on Thursday with on-and-off storms. The steadiest rain will fall before 6 a.m.
Thursday afternoon is very humid with temperatures in the mid-80s and a heat index near 90 degrees. The chance for rain decreases after 2 p.m. and the evening will likely be dry.
A NICE STRETCH FOR LABOR DAY
Temperatures are warm on Friday, in the 80s. It's less hot for Labor Day weekend, with highs generally in the 70s and overnight lows near 60 degrees. A stray shower is expected on Saturday night, but otherwise the holiday weekend will likely be dry.
