A local lawmaker is trying to crack down on drivers with suspended licenses who maim or kill others.
State Sen. Jack Martins, of Mineola, has just passed a bill in Albany that would make it a felony to injure or kill someone while driving with a suspended license.
Martins said violators have previously served only six months in prison, but his bill would increase that time to seven years.
"People shouldn't have a license to kill in this state," Martins said.
