The family of the Nassau County officer recovering from a crash with an alleged drunken driver got a surprise gift Friday from the Long Island owners of Triple Crown hopeful Big Brown.
In a show of solidarity, Big Brown co-owner Michael Iavarone announced at a press conference that a portion of the horse?s winnings will go to secure the future of the officer?s young son. Officer Kenneth Baribault remains in an induced coma at Nassau University Medical Center after being rear ended in his patrol car on the LIE Sunday.
"We're all pulling for Big Brown here on Long Island,? Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi said. ?We really are, but we want to send a clear message that we're also pulling for Big Blue.?
Nassau County and the police department will also coordinate a not-for-profit foundation for the Beribault family.
