Event organizers from Bear Mountain Inn said they made the decision because of attendance issues and "an increase of other Oktoberfest events in the Hudson Valley that is [sic] saturating the market."

A popular Oktoberfest in Bear Mountain was canceled this year by its organizers.

Roger Owen of Beacon, said Bear Mountain's Oktoberfest was an event that was beloved by many.

"The beer, a little bratwurst, you know, the music, some people dressed up according for it, so it was cool," Owen said.

But after 34 years, the popular event, that was most recently held at the Anthony Wayne Recreation Center, was canceled.

"I was kind of surprised. It really caught me off guard. I heard it on the radio the other morning driving into work," Owen said.

Event organizers from Bear Mountain Inn said they made the decision because of attendance issues and "an increase of other Oktoberfest events in the Hudson Valley that is [sic] saturating the market."

"I think that's too bad, but I love it here, and I feel sad that they're not going to have it," said Denny Blake, of Peekskill.

Fathi R., a worker at Olive Tree Food Mart in Fort Montgomery, said the event brought in lots of money for his company in the past.

"It's going to be a big impact for us. All business around here are going to lose money," he said.

Despite this year's cancellation, organizers from Bear Mountain Inn said they are looking to add other programming to their schedule.

This summer, they said have already added events like Fridays@Five and said they are preparing for murder mystery dinners in November.
