As summer temperatures rise across Long Island, many are turning to a classic way to cool down - ice cream.

Just steps from Corey Beach in Blue Point, Beach Side Sweets has been serving up scoops, soft serve and frozen treats to a steady stream of customers looking for relief from the heat.

"We love it here!" said Savannah Amendola, of Sayville.

For many, a cold cone is about more than just beating the heat.

"On a hot day, it feels really nice to have ice cream," said Ethan Thomas, of Islip. "And it's really nice to sit down and talk with anyone."

Rainbow sprinkles, soft serve and classic cones remain popular choices, but customers say the shop's location near the beach makes it an easy stop during a day in the sun.

"We love Corey Beach. The food, the beach, the ice cream. It's amazing here," said Harmony Harris, of East Patchogue. "We actually live nearby, so it's in walking distance. It's good to come by and get food."

Beach Side Sweets also offers snow cones, milkshakes, slushies and other frozen drinks for visitors looking for alternatives to ice cream.

"Honestly, who doesn't love rainbow sprinkles and a little soft serve," said Fallon Wigley, of Mattituck.

Employee Delaney Bowen says frozen treats offer more than just a way to cool off.

"I think a lot of comfort comes from ice cream and slushies," Bowen said. "A lot of nostalgic memories. I think it's a great way to beat the heat."

Whether it's a classic cone after a swim or a refreshing slushie on a hot afternoon, customers say a stop at Beach Side Sweets is the perfect way to end a summer day in Blue Point.
