Beaches in Long Beach close for the season amid heat, humidity

Long Beach has no lifeguards on duty anymore while other area beaches have chosen to keep them on until close to the end of September.

Beachgoers looking to head to Long Beach to cool off over the next few days will quickly find out that the beaches are closed for the season and have no lifeguards.

In the Town of Hempstead, lifeguards will remain on duty through Sept. 24.

Other beaches that will have lifeguards on duty are Jones Beach, Robert Moses, Sunken Meadow and Hither Hills. They will have lifeguards until Sept. 17.

Wildwood State Park and Tobay Beach will also have lifeguards, but only on the weekends.
