Beach erosion raises concerns as Debby moves up coast

Public officials are closely watching coastal communities as Debby moves toward our area.
Mounds of sand form a protective barrier around Tobay Beach, which has seen massive erosion from storms in recent years.
The Town of Oyster Bay had just completed a project to replenish the beach with more than 30,000 tons of sand in May.
Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino says he fears they might have to truck in sand all over again.
Preparations are also underway in the Town of Hempstead.
Supervisor Don Clavin asked residents, especially those in low-lying areas, to be alert.
