Students at Bayville Intermediate School received a lesson on cyberbullying as part of the "Don't Press Send" campaign Wednesday.
Rockville Centre school teacher Katie Schumacher developed the program after discussions with her own three children. Within the last year, she has visited children in as many as 40 schools, encouraging them to use technology safely and kindly.
Schumacher told the students to use their empathetic skills and to think about other people's feelings before sending a nasty message online.
School principal Scott McElhiney says there are more instances of cyberbullying each year and that it's becoming harder to police.
