A Vietnam veteran from Bay Shore is using art to teach lessons about the realities of war.

Army veteran Frank Romeo, 70, was shot seven times and left for dead in a southeast Asian jungle. He survived, and has now started "The Art of War" exhibit for students. It uses artifacts from the Vietnam era, art done by veterans and Romeo's own experiences.

Romeo wants to show students what it was like to be an American soldier. He has lived with post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, for 50 years, but it was only diagnosed in the early 1990s.

"The Art of War" will be open to the public Tuesday at Bay Shore High School, starting at 5 p.m.

Romeo is also walking across the state in March to raise awareness for PTSD.
