Basketball teams that are set to play for Alzheimer's awareness this weekend met the Long Islanders they are fundraising for on Tuesday.
"Awareness Night" at Artis Senior Living in Commack will take place on Sunday ahead of the 12th annual Alzheimer's All-Star Basketball Classic.
Organizers tell News 12 the purpose is to bring the cause of the weekend's fundraiser to life for players.
"They have the opportunity to do empathy training, which simulates what an Alzheimer's patient goes through on a daily basis," says Director of Community Relations Artis Senior Living in Commack Gordon Thomas. "So they're putting equipment on for only two minutes and they're blessed to be able to take it off, but Alzheimer's patients aren't."
The charity game takes place at 1 p.m. at Saint Dominic High School in Oyster Bay.
