The community came together Sunday to help a young Long Island athlete who's recovering from an injury.
St. John the Baptist's junior and varsity basketball teams held a tournament fundraiser to support 14-year-old Allie Ponzio.
Ponzio was hustling after a loose ball Jan. 5 when she slammed into a wall and fractured vertebrae in her neck. She couldn't feel her arms and legs.
Ponzio has since had surgery to fuse her neck and is attending physical therapy.
The girls' teams at St. John's put together Sunday's tournment to raise money to pay for her mounting medical bills.
The junior varsity and varsity teams hope to raise $30,000.
Ponzio says she can't wait to get back on the court.
