A Baldwin mother is behind bars, accused of disappearing for days and putting her kids? safety at risk.
Nassau police say Cindy Roberts, 26, left her 3-year-old and 6-year-old in her Baldwin home with her boyfriend before disappearing Feb. 8. They say she didn?t tell anyone where she was going or when she was coming back. Roberts? friends took over the responsibility of watching the children a few days later.
When Roberts didn?t come back for several days, the friends called police and filed a missing persons report, authorities say. Roberts returned home Feb. 12, but her children had already been placed in foster care.
Police say Roberts did not try to get her children back and then disappeared again. She returned Wednesday and was arrested on child endangerment charges.
Roberts was arraigned Thursday, but did not make bail. Police say she will not tell them where she disappeared to.
