Residents angry about higher tax assessments on their homes in the wake of Superstorm Sandy attended the Babylon Village board meeting Tuesday night to makes their voices heard.

Mayor Ralph Scaldino says homeowners, who stayed within their original home's footprint and only elevated or added solar panels, should not face higher assessments. But he says some people may have made additions and however small, they will need to pay accordingly.

Annette Wanderer moved into her Babylon Village home just a few months before Superstorm Sandy. She says all she did to her home is elevate it more than four feet and add solar panels. She says she's angry the village increased her home's assessment by $600.

The mayor suggested that residents concerned about their new assessments should attend grievance day where they can officially make their complaints to the assessor and plead their case. Grievance day will be held Feb. 18 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the municipal building at 153 West Main St. in Babylon.

The mayor says anyone who can not make it, should call his office.
