People whose lives have been affected by autism networked at a health fair at SUNY Downstate Sunday.

Parents from across Brooklyn and beyond learned about some of the community resources available.

SUNY Downstate Medical Center wanted to also inform the public about some of the misconceptions of children with the disorder.

"No one child on the spectrum is the same," says Neelima Nayyar-Gujral, of SUNY Downstate Medical Center. "They all have their own individual strengths and different needs, and what we try to do here at SUNY Downstate when we do evaluations for children is to really figure out what the needs are and then help guide the parents in the right direction."

The last time SUNY Downstate ran a fair at the hospital was 2011. Organizers say they hope to make the event bigger and better for next year.

Officials say they also want to expand services, such as a support group.
