A Holtsville man was arrested in Yaphank for stealing a fire department emergency vehicle at the scene of a crash he was involved in.
Police say Jaime Alexander Brayton was driving westbound on the Long Island Expressway when he crashed his vehicle, disabling it along with multiple other vehicles just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
While victims were being assisted, Brayton allegedly got in the driver's side of a fire department vehicle.
Officer Matthew Corchia reached in to stop Brayton, who then drove forward, injuring Corchia's arm.
Brayton then drove off, resulting in a police chase. He was arrested a few minutes after.
Officer Corchia was treated for a minor shoulder injury at the hospital.
