An audit of the 8th Precinct in Levittown has brought the Nassau County Police Department under fire Wednesday.
County comptroller Howard Weitzman says the police department is wasting tax dollars and that the 8th Precinct results are representative of all eight precincts in Nassau County. Weitzman has suggested several changes he says will stop the department from wasting time and money. Weitzman says police are doing work manually that could be done more efficiently by computers, and he adds that overtime costs have more than doubled in the last few years.
Police Commissioner James Lawrence had no comment on the audit, but PBA President Gary DelaRaba blasted its findings. DelaRaba said the report rehashes changes already underway and calls several of Weitzman's suggestions "nonsense."
