A Hillside police officer is facing criminal charges for allegedly attempting to tip off a gang member.

The attorney general's office says Officer Fernando J. Noblecilla attempted to warn a local Latin gang member that the police were on the way to his house.

Noblecilla is also accused of using a law enforcement database to get information for another gang member.

He faces multiple charges, including official misconduct, hindering of the prosecution and computer theft.
