A Hempstead man has been found guilty of attacking and raping a woman in the days after Superstorm Sandy.
Artie Jackson was found guilty on all 18 counts for a crime spree that included the attack on Nov. 11, 2012. He was convicted on charges of predatory sexual assault, first-degree rape and second-degree attempted murder.
Prosecutors said Jackson was carrying a knife when he broke into a woman's townhouse in East Garden City. They say when the 50-year-old victim tried to run, Jackson attacked her, sexually assaulted her and then tried to strangle her. He punched her in the face, slammed her into a wall and broke her nose.
Jackson could get 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced next month.
