Nassau police arrested a Levittown woman Monday in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed a dog last month.
Ana Rodriguez, 37, is facing a charge of leaving the scene of an accident with an injury to an animal. She is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 17.
Police on Sunday released graphic security video that showed the accident, which occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
According to detectives, Marie Delapapa, 66, was walking a Yorkshire terrier named Peanut. The dog was on an extendable leash as the pair walked down Center Lane in Levittown.
The video shows Peanut step off of the sidewalk and into the road. Within seconds, a blue Chrysler Pacifica appears to strike and kill the dog.
Police say the driver of the minivan briefly slowed down before leaving the scene.
"I can't imagine a person on this earth that's such a terrible person, that would kill an animal and just keep going," Delpapa told News 12 earlier.
The Nassau SPCA was offering a $2,000 reward for information that led to an arrest.
