Help could be coming for some South Shore residents who constantly battle flooding issues.
The Army Corps of Engineers will be helping to elevate eligible homes across the entire South Shore.
They are set to begin the pilot portion of the Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) Home Elevation Program. Around 50 homes in the Mastic Beach and Babylon communities are expected to take part in the program.
The Army Corps has already identified eligible structures prone to frequent flooding in Suffolk County. They will be finding contractors to do the work.
Construction is expected to begin in late 2025 or early 2026
