New documents obtained by the Associated Press show that repairs at Penn Station could drag on for six weeks this summer.
The AP says the timeline shows Amtrak plans to do track repairs from July 7 to July 25, and again from Aug. 4 to Aug.28. The plan is not final yet and no specifics have been released on which tracks will close.
In a statement, Amtrak said in part, "All groups are working with the common goal of creating service schedules that minimize impact on the traveling public when we do the necessary upgrades to Penn Station."
Amtrak plans to meet with officials from the Long Island Rail Road and NJ Transit on Thursday. Once they agree on a plan, it could be revealed next week.
Long Island commuters expressed plenty of frustration last month during multiple instances of delays and cancellations due to electrical and rail issues inside Penn Station.
