Crews cleaned up hate-filled, anti-Semitic words Sunday found spray-painted at a Plainview park frequented by children.
The graffiti reads "PlainJew" and included the letters KKK along with a swastika. Stunned residents found the vandalism on play equipment at a neighborhood park on Sally Lane.
One man said he discovered it when he took his grandchildren, who are visiting from Israel, to the park Saturday afternoon. Other residents took the crime personally.
"This really hits home for me because ? September 5 it will be 16 years [since] my dad was killed in a hate crime," said stunned resident Diane Braccia.
Town of Oyster Bay workers started cleaning up the mess Sunday morning after getting a call.
"We're going to press as hard as we can to ? see to it that the people who did this are arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," said Town Supervisor John Venditto.
Authorities believe the vandalism occurred between 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. Nassau police are asking anyone with information about the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
