As state budget negotiations continue, parents, teachers and students rallied across Long Island against the Common Core curriculum and Gov. Andrew Cuomo's education reforms.
Anti-Common Core groups rallied at Islip Town Hall Friday. Others lined Montauk Highway and Merrick Road in Nassau and Suffolk counties. They claim Common Core takes away from teacher creativity and stresses out students.
"We are wasting a lot of time and energy on a reform that is absolutely not necessary," said Tom Barry, teachers union president.
Gov. Cuomo's office did not return a call to comment on this report.
