There will be big temperature swings throughout this week on Long Island and tonight will be the coldest night of the week and season so far!
Highs on Monday were only in the upper 20s to low 30s with that biting, strong wind. Thankfully, the wind has been subsiding since earlier today and the wind will continue to become lighter overnight.
SUNSET FUN FACT: Tonight's sunset was the earliest it will get this season. The sun will set later - very slowly, but surely - starting tomorrow.
Please make sure to continue dressing in layers, especially tonight through Tuesday morning. Wind chills tomorrow morning will range from the upper single digits to mid-teens.
Also, with high temperatures in the mid to upper 30s tomorrow, even a lighter wind can make it feel like the 20s at times.
It will become a bit windier again Tuesday evening and a stronger wind will linger through the end of the week with gusts mostly ranging from 15 to 30 mph. Some gusts on Wednesday can be a bit higher.
A rain or snow shower cannot be ruled out Tuesday evening, but it is most likely to just be some spotty flurries or rain sprinkles. Temperatures will be in the low-30s Tuesday afternoon and then rise during the evening and overnight into Wednesday morning. The actual high temperature will occur in the evening hours.
After starting the month with below average temperatures, Wednesday will be the one day this week that temperatures will be slightly above average - in the upper 40s. This will also come with spotty rain showers in the afternoon and evening.
Thursday and Friday look dry, but with a colder temperature trend into the weekend.
WEEKEND SNOW CHANCE?!
The weekend will bring the chance for a few mixed showers early Saturday morning and possibly our first chance for a light snow accumulation either Saturday or Sunday.
The newest weather data suggests Sunday to have the better chance of any snow, but this is five to six days away and confidence is typically very low this far out and that is the case here. The News 12 Storm Watch Team of meteorologists will keep a close eye on this for you throughout the week.
There will be much higher forecast confidence building between Wednesday and Thursday. This is also not a guarantee for any snow just yet, but it is an extra reason to pay attention to the News 12 forecast updates this week.
Have a great night and stay warm!
