The annual Bethpage Air Show entertained residents at Jones Beach on Saturday.
News 12 Long Island’s Amy McGorry was there as military and civilian performers dazzled the audience with aerobatic maneuvers in the sky.
News 12 Long Island’s pilot David Windmiller showed off his stunts during the event.
The U.S. army’s Golden Knights Parachute Team also participated.
“They were spectacular. You get a very patriotic feeling as they bring down the flag and the national anthem is being sung. It's really been a great kickoff to summer,” said New York State Parks Long Island regional director George Gorman.
Navy veteran Bob Muller believes events like the air show help unify the community and celebrate the meaning of Memorial Day.
“The celebration is sort of bittersweet,” he said “We have to remember why we are able to be here. It's so important. So many have sacrificed for us.”
