Andrew's Top Gun 5K Run is being held today in Calverton to honor a 12-year-old Boy Scout who was killed by a drunk driver.
More than 900 people registered to participate in the event at Enterprise Park. Andrew's parents have turned their pain into purpose with events like this to honor their son’s life and raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.
The event honors Andrew McMorris, who was killed by a drunk driver while he was hiking with his Boy Scout troop in 2018.

Andrew's Top Gun Run 5K is a celebration of what would have been Andrew's 16th birthday.
“This is overwhelming. When we first started this out, we thought we would bring a bunch of people together,” says Alisa McMorris, Andrew's mother. “Basically, this has turned out to be a magnificent celebration of life and of just what Andrew was about - bringing people together where nothing else matters than having a good time and being kind to each other.”
"The fact that we're celebrating Andrew at a place that was really super cool, where F-14s used to take off from, it's just so appropriate for him – and his spirit is here so much," says Andrew's father John McMorris.
All of the money raised will go towards scholarships in Andrew's memory.
