West Babylon Board of Education considers plans to close Forest Avenue Elementary School
23ds agoThe Amityville school board voted Thursday to formally eliminate approximately 13 positions. The cuts included elementary teachers, teaching assistant and monitors.
The latest round of layoffs are part of a previously announced plan to save $2.8 million, according to Amityville school districts officials.
Other Long Island school districts are also making difficult decisions to make ends meet.
The West Babylon School District is spending nearly $2 million in reserves.
The Sachem School District is spending more than $12 million in reserves, and eliminating jobs.
The Sachem School Board will present its new budget next week, which will detail the proposed cuts.
