Police say a Roosevelt man nearly mowed down two undercover Nassau County detectives with a stolen car Wednesday.
The officers had been sitting in a cab on a stakeout outside 355 Copaigue St. in Valley Stream. According to authorities, the suspect had been under investigation for burglary.
Police spotted the suspect get into an allegedly stolen van with New Jersey plates. They say when they approached the vehicle, he stepped on the gas and tried to run them over.
Witnesses say the suspect nearly flipped the van over while running through stop signs backwards at a four-way intersection and abruptly hitting the breaks. Police followed in pursuit.
The suspect was eventually nabbed in Queens off the Van Wyck Expressway. The name of the suspect is being withheld.
