A Port Jefferson Station man accused of fatally stabbing a man in Mastic was arraigned Thursday. The weeklong manhunt began when the suspect, Tomas R. Peck, 26, fled from Long Island to Mexico. He was wanted for the murder of 21-year-old Tyrone Terry. Peck eventually surrendered to police in Miami and was extradited back to Suffolk County.
Terry was found stabbed in a home on Feb. 10. He was employed at the Polk County Corrections Facility in North Carolina and was on Long Island visiting his girlfriend, 34-year-old Dana Duford. In court Thursday, prosecutors tried to portray the crime as one of passion and jealousy. They said Peck was enraged when Duford rejected his romantic advancements, so he killed her boyfriend.
Peck is due back in court next week and is expected to be indicted on second-degree murder. He is being held without bail because the judge considers him a flight risk.
