Alleged gang member, FBI most wanted suspect Juan Elias Garcia arrested in Nicaragua
A man accused of a vicious double murder on Long Island has been arrested.
Police in Nicaragua say they have apprehended alleged MS-13 gang member Juan Elias Garcia, one of the criminals on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list. The 21-year-old was added to the list this week, four years after allegedly luring his girlfriend Vanessa Argueta and her 2-year-old son into the woods in Central Islip.
Investigators say Garcia and other gang members shot Argueta because she befriended another gang.
Garcia allegedly shot 2-year-old Diego so he wouldn't one day seek revenge.
An FBI spokesman says it's not yet clear how long Garcia was in Nicaragua, or if he spent time anywhere else. He's originally from El Salvador.
The FBI put a $100,000 bounty on Garcia two days ago, and officials say he was detained near the U.S. Embassy in Nicaragua and immediately turned over to the FBI.
Garcia is scheduled to be at the U.S. District Court in Central Islip on Monday morning.
