A Seaford man was arrested Saturday for an alleged drunk-driving accident that killed a West Babylon woman. Suffolk County police say 39-year-old Robert Chmela was driving drunk south on Conklin Avenue in Wheatley Heights at 5:45 a.m. when he crossed the median. Chmela?s Ford crashed into an oncoming car driven by 76-year-old Melanie Minervini. Minervini died from her injuries at New Island Hospital. Chmela was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center and treated for head and blunt trauma injuries. Chmela remains in the hospital. The Minervini family says Melanie was on her way to monitor the SAT exams at Half Hollow Hill East High School when the crash occurred. They say Minervini was a loving woman who dedicated her life to her family and loved ones.
