Alleged Bloods gang member Kyle Matthews has been charged in connection with the deadly shooting of 20-year-old Brooklyn resident DeAndre Carter.
Police say it happened last month in Valley Stream outside what police called an illegal party at a rental hall on Ocean Avenue.
Authorities said they're looking for a second shooter.
Police say there was no confrontation and the suspects just walked up and started shooting. A 12-year-old and two teenagers were also shot but survived. Another teen was injured.
Nassau police say the party was being hosted by members of the Crips gang and the Bloods consider them to be their adversary.
According to authorities say the foam party was advertised on social media.
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder detailed Matthews' criminal history including two arrests for having a loaded firearm. He said Matthews should have been behind bars, and if he had been, then this "senseless murder" wouldn't have happened.
Matthews' attorney said his client denies the allegations and pleaded not guilty at his Thursday arraignment.
The defendant is due back in court September 11. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
