Officials say a man was rescued after being ejected from his boat on Wednesday night near Fire Island.
According to Marine Bureau officers, Michael Greene was operating a 25-foot Grady-White boat when he is believed to have suffered a medical emergency and crashed into the Fire Island Pines bulkhead.
Greene was ejected from the vessel at 5:58 p.m. A good Samaritan jumped into the water and kept Greene afloat until officers arrived.
The officers immediately jumped into the water and started rendering first aid to Greene. A third officer went on Greene’s boat, which was now unoccupied and traveling in circles. That officer  was able to switch the boat into neutral and get back to safety before the Grady-White sank.
Greene, 34, of Islip, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of not-life threatening.
There were no other passengers on the boat and no other injuries.
