Police say two officers in Franklin, Tennessee were injured after a fleeing suspect dragged them from his car, running one of the officers over.
According to police, the incident happened at 10:20 a.m. Sunday.
Police say an officer stopped 26-year-old Roy Nicholson, of Columbia, between Murfreesboro Road and McEwen Drive.
The officer, who was initially investigating a traffic violation, asked Nicholson to step out of his car after seeing a gun in the vehicle and smelling marijuana.
Once outside of the car, Nicholson began actively resisting the officer.
In dramatic dash-cam video, Nicholson can be seen breaking away from the officer, getting back into his car where a firearm was present, and then dragging Officer Dustyn Stevens and Officer Matt Lamarr, down the Interstate, before running over Officer Stevens during his getaway.
Citizens who saw this occurring followed the suspect's vehicle, providing updated location information that helped additional responding officers locate and take Nicholson into custody.
Officer Stevens was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released.
Officer Lamarr’s injuries appeared to be superficial, not requiring immediate medical treatment.
Nicholson has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a first responder and felony evading.
Nicholson is free on a $40,000 bond and is due in court on June 9.
