Deliberations have been put on hold Tuesday in the trial of a man accused of posing as a cop and shooting a banker to death in Franklin Square.
A juror told a Nassau County court judge that he was suffering from a chronic medical condition brought on by stress and could not continue to deliberate. The judge then rejected a motion for a mistrial and told the jury to return the next day.
Reginald Gousse, 33, is accused of killing 49-year-old bank manager James Gottlieb, of Garden City South. Prosecutors say Gousse had a siren rigged to his SUV and pretended to be a police officer to get Gottlieb to pull over. According to prosecutors, Gousse killed Gottlieb when he refused to hand over the keys to the bank. Gousse?s attorney, however, says police arrested the wrong man.
Gousse is charged with first and second-degree murder, attempted robbery and criminal impersonation.
