Authorities are searching for the person who dropped off an abused pit bull puppy at the doorstep of a Freeport animal shelter this past weekend.
The 3-month-old dog was emaciated, hypothermic and suffering from multiple wounds when it was brought to Bobbi and the Strays shelter.
Nassau District Attorney's Animal Crimes Unit Chief Jed Painter says a man is seen on surveillance video walking to the front of the shelter with the dog in a duffel bag around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
After an hour, a worker discovered the bag with the dog inside.
The puppy, now being called Copper, is recovering.
Anyone with information is asked to call the animal crime tipline at 516-571-7755.
