Wednesday is Getaway Day and one of the busiest travel days of the year.

This Thanksgiving weekend could see the most travelers in a decade.

AAA says about 49 million people are expected to travel 50 miles or more to their holiday destinations, the most since 2007.

For those who are concerned about waiting in long security lines at the airport, TSA officials say they are ready for the holiday travel.

"We brought on about just shy of 1,400 new transportation security officers this summer. We've converted about 2,000 from part-time to full-time. We've added about another 50 to 60 K-9s, which allow us to rapidly move people through the line. I actually think we are ready for holiday travelers this year," says TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger.

Most of the people traveling this holiday will be driving to their destinations. On average, drivers are paying a little more for gas this year than last year. However, gas prices are shaping up to be the second-lowest since Thanksgiving 2008.

The average price for a gallon of regular on Long Island is about $2.37, up about 10 cents from last year.

The Long Island Rail Road will run 12 extra eastbound trains Wednesday afternoon to accommodate people leaving early.

There will also be extra trains to and from the city in the morning for the Thanksgiving Day parade.
