AAA says a record 48.9 million people will travel 50 miles or more for the Fourth of July.
Officials say most will start their holiday by taking off of work Wednesday.
INRIX says a mix of holiday travelers and commuters leaving work Wednesday will cause traffic to be heaviest between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Officials say in New York, you can expect to quadruple your commute time.
FlightAware says 12 million Americans are expected to fly for the holiday, and the busiest day at the airport will be Sunday.
The LIRR is running extra eastbound trains to and from the Hamptons. The railroad has eight extra eastbound trains from Penn Station.
