According to AAA, more than 37 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more this Memorial Day weekend, marking a 10-year high.
Officials say most will be driving, enjoying gas prices that are about $1 less than a year ago. Long Islanders are currently paying $2.93 a gallon.
AAA says that while the prices of gas has risen recently, it hasn't discouraged drivers from getting behind the wheel in record numbers this holiday weekend.
It is estimated that Americans will spend $12 billion this weekend on airfare, food, hotels and rentals alone. The number works out to about $330 per person.
