A group of Long Island mothers founded their own softball league.
The founders say the idea for the Salisbury Mom's Intramural League started while they were sitting in the beaches watching their daughters' Little League game. The women decided to start a league of their own.
The league plays for five weeks every Thursday - three games a night. The players come from Salisbury, East Meadow and Carle Place.
Some of the women played softball in college and some have never played at all.
"It brings the whole community together - it's women all building each other up," says Kara Gambino, one of the founders of the Salisbury Mom's Softball League. "Whether you hit a home run or a single - everyone is just cheering each other on."
Marissa Morales, another co-founder of the league, says it's also "pretty cool" to see the roles reversed and have their own children cheering for them from the sidelines.
The founders say they hope women in other towns will form teams like theirs and eventually hold an island-wide tournament.
