A man who allegedly left his hat behind at an attempted home break-in was tracked down Tuesday by his DNA and arrested.
This fall, a homeowner on Meadow Street in Garden City got an alert on his phone for activity on his surveillance system. He saw a car he didn't know in his driveway, and a man trying to break into a first-floor window.
Police responded, and the suspect got away. But the search did not stop. Using forensic evidence from a hat left behind police were able to track down Kenta Shelton.
He was arrested in Hempstead. Detectives say that in addition to the attempted burglary, Shelton also drove to the house in a Honda Accord that was reported stolen in Baldwin last June.
