Police say an elderly woman was rescued after her car became submerged in the waters of Bay Shore Saturday.
Suffolk police say it happened at the Bay Shore Marina on Clinton Avenue shortly after 1 p.m. A 911 caller reported that a woman drove into the water.
Officers arrived to discover the submerged vehicle with the operator, a 97-year-old woman, still inside, with water up to her neck. The vehicle's windows were closed and its doors were locked.
An officer broke a window and pulled the woman out of the vehicle. She was lifted onto the dock with assistance from a good Samaritan.
Suffolk's Marine Bureau responded to pull the vehicle from the water.
The woman, who was identified only as a Bohemia resident, was taken to Southside Hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
