Nine suspects were arraigned Sunday for allegedly beating up and mugging people in a usually quiet Hicksville park.Police say the accused beat up five people and stole their cell phones and other items around 2 a.m. Saturday at the park off Glenbrook Road. None of the victims were seriously hurt. The small park is nestled between homes and has three narrow entrances.

According to residents, the park is a hangout spot, but there's usually no violence. One neighbor says he was awakened to floodlights as police searched for evidence in the shocking crime.

Police captured the suspects, who range in age from 16 to 20, a short time later. Authorities say they recovered knives and some of the stolen property.
