More than half a dozen properties in Suffolk County are being turned into affordable rental housing for veterans.
The county says under the "Housing Our Homeless Heroes Act," eight properties will be offered to military families in need.
"It is a tragedy for any of our military heroes to return home and not have a place to live on the very land they fought to protect," says Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.
The properties are located in Copiague, Central Islip, Medford, Yaphank, Mastic and Riverhead.
